         Who We Are                              

ACT grew out of the commitment to calm traffic that a few hardworking Norwalk residents exhibited during the spring of 2001.  Throughout Norwalk we rallied around 'funding $100,000 for traffic calming measures' by speaking with neighbors, circulating petitions and contacting members of the Council. 

Tony Rossi, Mikki Tiffen, Josephine Martuccio, Glenn O'Neill, Robin Hermans, Doris Shulman, Laurie Doering, Sylvia Schulman, David McKnight, Samantha Parker, Kevin McMullan, Margaret Stamatis, Patty Perschino, Lisa Coville-King, Arthur Davis, Donna Schlegel, Irwin Zucker, Amy Sander, Robert Stefanov and Diana Holdsworth get our thanks.  Thanks also to those others whose names never surfaced, to those advocates that came before us and to those that have come forward since the spring of 2001.  Their voices were heard -- and continue to be heard.  The level of safety and quality of life for everyone in Norwalk is benefiting because of their cumulative efforts.

Offerings of commitment to calm traffic that support the efforts of ACT have come also from agencies, government departments and other non-profit organizations.  Many of these names and websites appear on the pages of our website: Dick Linnartz and Frank Mauro of the DPW; Mark Palmer of the NPD; Mayor Alex Knopp; SWRPA; DOT; Transportation Choices Coalition of CT; CT Bicycle Coalition.

The ACT email list now contains more than 300 email addresses.  Each person that receives ACT email represents himself or herself -- and may also represent family, neighbors on the street, a neighborhood association, a business, a non-profit organization and/or constituents.

Some members have become involved in ACT specific to traffic concerns on the street on which they reside.  Other members want to focus on the overall picture -- or problems they see because of specific deficits in government departments.

No matter what the focus -- or the level of participation -- much of the strength of ACT is in keeping the communication links in place.  Actively thinking and communicating ideas will help give us the answers that will bring us calm traffic.
